My cheque for the insurance payout came through today for around £1600. I rang my insurers about how long I had to find a bike and they said the underwriters could cancel my policy at any time, queue frantic music! So I started scouring the marketplace (ebay, gumtree, piston heads, bike trader, preloved). I was however, stuck in a really annoying situation:
After having my accident nearly a month ago, I seriously needed a new bike to be able to travel 22 miles per day to my new job. In addition to this, I need a years NCB to be able to insure a 600 in August. I immediately started looking for GS500Es - I found a nice one so got on the phone to my insurers. It turns out AXA don't insure bikes with restricters... This is frustrated because the GS500E's will have a great selling rate as they fall into the new "restricted" range. I looked at dirt bikes (250's) but they all seemed to produce around 35-40bhp. There was no point spending all my money on a sport 250 as no one will want them next year. It was then that I thought people are still going to want a CBF250 in August as they're sensible, economic commuters. So I started looking for another almighty CBF250. That's when I stumbled upon this gem:

A late 2007 CBF 250-6, practically new with 3600 miles. The colour is much better than my old one too. I immediately set up a viewing the next day. I awoke early and heading through London, navigating through the use of 3 trains. By the time I got there I was almost set on buying the bike just so I didn't have to go through the trains again. When I saw the bike, it looked great, very minimal corrosion, everything was in place, it looked great. I did all my checks and parted with £1575. I rang up my insurers, corrected all the information and was all set. Then, like a cinematic production, the skies opened and a storm hit hard. I gave it around 15mins before deciding to tackle the harsh rain, lightening and thunder (the worst I have ever seen, let alone ride in). After around 25 miles, the weather changed to sun and I realised how much I'd missed my CBF. The 2007 is different than my 2004; the engine rolls on rather than being quick to accelerate, the tone from the exhaust is far deeper and the seat seems higher. The rear fairing has also been made longer. I'm going to properly test it tomorrow, but I'm so happy I found a bike that has been so preciously looked after. I'm not going to make the same mistakes I did with my previous CBF - I even washed it when I finally got home!
I also got a 110db disk lock out of the deal, so will have to check that out tomorrow!
