I got into the school early and got about half an hours riding in before I was due at the test centre. From my instructor's reaction, I don't think I did anything wrong during this time. When the test started I was unusually confident and didn't treat it with the respect I probably should have. I got asked about the brake fluid reservoir, pillion travel and tyre pressure. We then set off and headed towards Hexham on the dual carriageway - I'd never been this route. Trying to take in the speed limit as I exited a roundabout, I poorly timed my head-check, leaving it until just after I had committed to the lane change.
I did signal (then started to move across), headcheck, lane change. It should be head-check, signal, lane change
When I got back the instructor told me that I had done the head-check, it was just a second too late. Personally I feel it's a little harsh but then again, it could have been a serious issue had someone undertaken me. I read through a lot of harsh fails for things like stopping too close to traffic in front and cancelling the indicator a few seconds late. Hopefully, I'll get the same instructor next time so he's aware of my previous fail.
At first, I was extremely deflated and demotivated. Tomorrow, I'm travelling down south where there are no DSA centres near me. This means that I'll have to commute up north just to do the test which is going to cost me in the region of £200. It feels pretty bad knowing that, had I of turned my head slightly earlier, I could hold an A2 license right now :(.
Regardless, I'm going to persevere and book my next test in around a week.
